Pathways Health Centre for Children’s Therapeutic Pool Opens Following Refurbishment

Sarnia, ON – July 29, 2021: Pathways Health Centre for Children is pleased to announce the reopening
of their therapeutic pool for the first time since the onset of the pandemic and since the completion of
the $1.6M refurbishment project.

The pool refurbishment involved extensive changes being made on the thirty-year-old infrastructure.
This included mechanical and electrical upgrades allowing for fully automated water filtration,
sterilization and chemical addition systems. Users will also note new pool tiles and grout, a new pool
deck and repainting of the pool room. The aquatics facility continues to feature and accessible ramp,
water wheel chair, a ceiling lift transfer system, and accessible change rooms. Work was completed
through General Contractor Acapulco Pools Ltd. (Kitchener), with a number of local subcontracted
trades.

“We are proud to provide such a unique service to the Sarnia-Lambton community, and the changes and
additions we have implemented means we can continue this well into the future.” says Alison Morrison,
Executive Director.

The Save Pathways Therapeutic Pool campaign drew in enormous community support and giving. The
project was funded through donations from individuals, service clubs, and community organizations, as
well as support from foundations and a number of grants. Mike Elliott, (President of the Rotary Club of
Sarnia) shared: “We are proud to once again support Pathways in service to this community and we
celebrate the re-opening of the pool!” The Rotary Club of Sarnia was announced as lead donor for the
Capital Campaign in 2018, with a multi-year pledge totalling $600, 000. Elliott was joined by Warren
Kennedy (Chair of Pathways Board of Directors) and Deb Marson (Supervisor of Aquatic Services) to
welcome swimmers back to the pool.

The Pathways therapeutic pool sees over 800 children and young adults with disabilities every year, and
close to 10,000 community members. “Our pool is an integral service for so many of our clients and
families,” says Morrison. “We are so excited to welcome them back safely for a better-than-ever
experience.”

As the community continues to move forward towards pandemic recovery, additional precautions will
be in place for use of the pool. Pathways aquatic services will first open for those requiring rehabilitation
services and will slowly increase in alignment with Public Health directives to include community
programs. Please visit www.pathwayscentre.org or Pathways Pool Facebook for further details.

As one of the 21 Children’s Treatment Centre members of Empowered Kids Ontario in the province of

services in the community as well as an on-site integrated child care service.
