Volunteer

Volunteers complement the care given at Pathways by offering their own unique skills and interest to the children, and by increasing public awareness of the Centre. Volunteers are utilized in a number of capacities, and their support is of significant value to the programs and events in which they participate.

Why do people volunteer?

  • to have fun
  • to meet people
  • to feel appreciated/needed
  • to utilize/develop skills
  • to give back to the community
  • to enhance resume for school/job

Volunteer opportunities vary depending on experience, interest & availability. The majority of our volunteer opportunities are assisting with special events but we occasionally have opportunities working with clinicians to support our client’s participation in a program, assisting with clerical tasks or joining one of our committees.

Some of our special events include:

  • BBQ’s
  • Raffles and ticket sales
  • Golf tournaments
  • Secret Santa Shoppe

Pathways is always looking for a diversified mix of volunteers to join our Board of Directors.  Learn more on our Board of Directors page.

Screening and Application Process

We invite teens (Graduates of Grade 8) and adults to apply to become a Pathways volunteer. Due to the nature of our organization, we require a multi-part screening process that includes an application, interview, proof of immunizations, references and may include a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (depending on the role). All inquiries regarding volunteering can be made through our Contact Us page.

Student Placements

Pathways Health Centre for Children welcomes students, and works together with the student and their school to provide placements and job shadowing opportunities that are beneficial to the student and the Centre.

Generally, high school co-operative placements are only available in our on-site child care centre. University and College placements may be available for programs in related fields, provided we can meet the learning objectives of the program.  An interview process may be required for selection of students. Pathways Health Centre for Children does not provide WSIB insurance or financial compensation to students for placement experience. All inquiries for student placements can be made through our Contact Us page.
